Highly Effective Ways to Achieve a Goal

Goals add meaning to life, but setting goals is one thing and realizing them is a different thing altogether. Wonder why some people succeed at everything they set their mind to while you remain stuck in your goals? Consider the following tips ('highly effective ways to achieve a goal') and learn their secret.
  1. Write down your goal and the basic requirements for achievement
Set aside some time, pick a pen and a notebook and write down your goal. Be specific about it. Next, visualize the process and list down all the requirements needed to execute the goal.
NOTE: Requirements’ list should not be a wish list but rather list of things that are readily available and affordable.
  1. Break down the goal into mini-goals
The next step is breaking the overall goal into small achievable bits, let’s call them mini-goals. Begin by creating a mental picture of what you want to achieve. Once you’ve the picture, visualize the process and break it down into steps. Write down these steps in a sequential order and be realistic.
  1. Incorporate the steps into your daily schedule by fixing them on your to-do-list
Draw a timeline for your goal and fix the steps above within that timeline by assigning tasks to each day. Next draw a daily time budget followed by a to-do-list. NOTE: Your goal should take the first slot in terms of priority therefore, fix the ‘assigned tasks’ first on your to-do-list before everything else.
  1. Commit yourself and execute
Write a commitment statement and keep it in an easily accessible spot. Revisit it every morning before you start off your day. This way you’ll keep reminded of what you need to do and avoid veering off course.
The most important step is putting your plans to action. So once you've confirmed the day's assignment, step out, fold your sleeves and get your hands busy.
  1. Do a weekly review
At the end of each week take out your list and counter check against your actual performance. If all tasks are complete give yourself a pat, you’re a week closer to your goal. If otherwise, list down the reasons for not achieving each incomplete task and think of an objective solution for each.
NOTE: Assuming time limitation is one of the causes, maybe you need to either add more time for the tasks or if there is no available time pocket, adjust the tasks to an achievable number – but remember this means a longer timeline for your goal.
  1. Reward yourself regularly to keep motivated
Reward yourself every time you achieve a mini-goal. You can buy yourself a gift, go out for dinner at your favorite joint, a day out with friends etc. anything that will refresh you and motivate you to keep on. But be careful not to over-indulge and delay your progress. Remember it’s just a mini-goal and you need more resources to accomplish the ultimate goal. But the bottom-line is, learn to motivate yourself for without right motivation, chances of giving up midway are quite high.
If you commit to these simple steps, nothing will stop you from achieving your goal. However, this is not a carved-in-stone way of achieving a goal but a simple guide that you can follow in pursuit of your goal and succeed. You can add your steps to the above list. Help The Boy Child; Heal The Society

...........The midwife announces, "it's indeed a girl!" Everyone within earshot wears an irresistible smile and hearts warm up to welcome yet another little woman into the world. Her role in the universe is clearly cut out , and she starts training in readiness for her mission as soon as her hands are strong enough to hold something. Her first birthday present is a beautiful doll, which gives her a countenance similar to the one mama had when she(the little girl) checked into the world. She has her first time experience of sacrifice when she shoves aside her plate of food, to take care of the new found love. Today she's training her (the doll) how to sit, tomorrow she is plaiting her hair, the other day she's carrying her on her back soothing her to sleep. Did I forget that mama is now being instructed to serve food for two? Though soon she'll start preparing meals for her child (doll) and doing her laundry as well. As her obsession with do...

Is The Health Of A Nation A Reflection Of The Health Of Its Families?

Family is the basic unit of society. Therefore, it goes without saying that society is a composition of families. Hence, a morally ill society is a reflection of morally ill families. When we talk of social evils like corruption, injustice, misuse of power etc. more often we shift our focus to leaders forgetting that leadership is just a title; these people are children born and bred in our families. For instance, whenever a leader is exposed on issues of integrity or rather lack of it, we descend upon them with hate and criticism; we demonize them and even ostracize them. What hypocrisy! We adopt holier than thou attitudes and forget that we too are hanging on the same integrity scale; the only difference being, we’ve not been placed under an auditor’s lens (Almost every human being is or will be a leader at some point in their life. Whether you’re heading a nation, a religious body, a learning institution, a home etc. as long as someone is looking up to you for guidance, pro...

Importance of Introducing Personal Finance To 5 Year Olds

I would have loved to fly with a headline like ‘Instilling Positive Work Ethics In 5 Year Olds’, but I was afraid millennials and generation Zs will shrug the post off, screaming ‘child labor!' Thus the more subtle title 'Importance of Introducing Personal Finance To 5 Year Olds'. Actually, the two concepts are like a single coin, I have simply favored one side over the other. Now that my post has escaped the trash bin and I got the attention of fellow millennials and our younger siblings, let me address the entire public. My name (Wawira – someone who works) has kinda haunted me my entire life. Work has its way with me. It has this powerful force that keeps pulling me towards it. So I don’t recall when I started working.  But I remember in traces when I was still very young, I used to bite off more than I could chew quite often, which always resulted in frustration. Nevertheless, I never enjoyed resting until I completed what I FELT needed to be done. While growi...
