Love and Respect for Humanity

In the previous post Injustice: The demon of doom , we discovered that the only way we can suppress injustice in the world is by instilling the virtue of ‘love and respect for humanity’ in every human under the sun. However, a world population of 7 billion people is not a small village. No wonder injustice has continued to blossom, threatening to bring our society to its knees. I'll remain optimistic in the knowledge that the only thing that doesn’t have a solution here on earth is death. Hopefully, we’ll implement the much needed solution. Maybe you’re reasoning together with me and thinking, what if we introduce a ‘World Social Ethics Organization’ just like World Health Organization and mandate this organization to ensure every child born to the world is given social ethics doses(lessons) for the first eighteen years of their life. In the same way WHO is involved in the process of immunization, where children are mandated to receive some crucial jabs within the first

Injustice: The Demon of Doom

Injustice is an age-old vice that has tormented humanity since sin found its way to the world. It’s an agent of regression that fights against humanity and posterity. Many mortals have been subject to the burdensome yoke of Injustice at one time or another. With advancing of age, Injustice has gained momentum and has become like a fierce tsunami; it has shaken crucial pillars of our society. The world is writhing in pain in the claws of the demon of doom. Injustice fans the flames of many social evils on one hand and squeezes life out of the dreams of its victims on the other. The despicable demon of doom has successfully managed to lord it over humans who apparently have a strange weak willpower to fight back. This vice is older than all of us; we come, suffer helplessly, lament endlessly and go. Every time a new life checks-in on earth, the world heaves a sigh of relief and rejoices that finally someone has arrived to take the bull by its horns and put to an end the rut

The Sleeping Giants

Our society holds dear the principle of modesty. We really strive to abide by the virtue of humility, which is a good thing. However, we often cross the line and drift to unhealthy levels of modesty. ‘Is there such a thing as unhealthy modesty?’ – perhaps. You see, suppressing strengths and abilities to a point where they become rusty, so as to fit in and avoid being seen as lacking modesty is not right at all. Maybe someone is wondering, ‘who does that?’ As a matter of fact, most gifted individuals are guilty on this one. They often tone down their strengths/abilities so as not to appear overbearing on their peers or to avoid being labeled show-offs. With time they master their act and blend in; they settle for average performance. Our system of education is largely to blame for this due to its failure to provide differentiated learning for gifted students. From the onset, gifted learners are made to believe that what the system has availed is what is necessary. Howev

The Emotionally Troubled Gem

A gifted individual is startling, just when you think you’ve comprehended their persona, they pull another brand new face and throw you into confusion. Expression of giftedness is a journey full of surprises; geniuses are the most unpredictable humans. This is partly because of their intense character traits (strengths and weaknesses alike), which give them extreme and rare personalities. No wonder most of them feel misunderstood by others; actually it’s not just a feeling, people misunderstand them. But the weirdest surprise is, sometimes they too don’t understand themselves. (Trouble!) Another aspect of giftedness that elicits confusion is asynchronous (unbalanced) development. Yes, unbalanced (mental, emotional, physical) development is a trouble most geniuses have to deal with up to some point in their life or worse still in their entire lifetime in the absence of nurturance. For instance, you may find some gifted individuals who have very advanced cognitive/mental abilit

Congruity: The Celebrated Robber

Congruity is a smooth and friendly robber who enters your house as an entrepreneur selling a service (a tutorial on how to be cool and fit in the clique). As an unsuspecting host you gladly welcome the guest and sit through the tutorial patiently. You pay for the service by giving up your personal convictions and off he (congruity) goes to hunt for the next unsuspecting culprit. He robs your house (willpower) clean and leaves you with a herd-mentality that sticks with you as long as you want to remain cool. The good thing (am not sure whether it’s really good) with our society (us) is that we’re really smart. We pride in our ability to remain on top of things. We aren’t intimidated by problems, (though we aren’t proactive in solving them either). So whenever we’re faced with a stubborn problem that’s likely to give us headaches, we tag it with a justification and quickly sweep it under the carpet (that’s smart, right?). For instance, in the case mentioned above, when our k

Arrest the Rampant Single Parenthood Mania

The importance of bringing forth and bringing up children in a controlled environment cannot be overemphasized. Though some people may claim to know what’s best for their children, there are those who really don’t give a damn about their offspring. For a moment, I would like us to ditch our individual beliefs and consider what the author of life defined as an ideal environment for bringing forth new life. [At the beginning of age, God made a home for man (Garden of Eden). Then He created man (male and female) and placed them at the garden. Finally, He said to them, “Multiply and fill the earth.” This means that a new life should be brought forth into an already prepared home and the progenitors should be present to welcome and nurture it. These are the minimum standards for bringing forth a new life as per the life-author’s guide.] However, humans have adopted a self-destructive culture. Misuse of freedom of choice has resulted in weird beliefs that have conditioned the hum

Marginalization: The Lethal Double-edged Sword

Marginalization whether at the national, community or family level is a ruthless violation of the principle of equity/justice/fairness. It’s a flop on duty and responsibility.  Marginalization aborts dreams and hopes of many innocent lives. It cripples its victims, impoverishes them and wastes their lives. Marginalization is a deliberate neglect of the needs of subjects as well as a failure to recognize the wasted potential. The most painful element of marginalization is the amount of untold suffering borne by the marginalized groups. Normally, a sharp contrast exists between the quality of life of the marginalized group and that of the responsible authority. And the same is true when you compare the lives of the favored group versus the marginalized group.  However, nature has a very faithful servant known as fate charged with the responsibility of overseeing equity/justice/fairness in the universe. Fate is a law of nature that ensures actions and inactions are rewarded accord

Integrating the Non-conforming Genius

For a very good reason, I would like to split the mortals into two major groups; those with very high IQs and those with average IQs. And with the help of research, I’ll draw the cut line at 130.  Majority of the human population (approximately 98%) have average IQs; they fall under 130. This means that on estimate only a mere 2% would hit the 130 and above mark; these are the guys/gals we normally refer to as gifted or genius. So one would ask, does the Maker discriminate by endowing a few individuals with razor-sharp brains while majority are fitted in with average brains? The answer is no; though deliberate it’s not discriminative. Each group has its privileges and limits. And their privileges and limits are so distinct that each group responds to the world differently. As indicated, majority of the human population fall under one group and for this reason, world’s systems tend to address issues/needs of the masses. This leaves the unique minority out in the cold with little

The Risk Averse Genius

Fear of failure and humiliation is a common characteristic of gifted individuals. It’s a negative trait that develops gradually; you can call it the curse of the gift. It all begins when people start noticing their genius and praise starts flowing in from left, right and center. Parents, relatives, teachers etc. make it their business to remind these brainy tots that they’re super brilliant at every available opportunity.   Unfortunately, the frequent wows and praises work against them in the long-run as they resort to shunning activities and challenges, which they perceive difficult for fear of failing to meet the obvious expectations of everyone. As the negative trait of fear of failure and humiliation develops, it becomes like a thick dark cloud that hampers the brightness of a shining star. And if corrective measures are not employed to arrest the situation early enough, the cloud can linger indefinitely. As they grow older their brightness become duller and duller and ev

Is The Health Of A Nation A Reflection Of The Health Of Its Families?

Family is the basic unit of society. Therefore, it goes without saying that society is a composition of families. Hence, a morally ill society is a reflection of morally ill families. When we talk of social evils like corruption, injustice, misuse of power etc. more often we shift our focus to leaders forgetting that leadership is just a title; these people are children born and bred in our families. For instance, whenever a leader is exposed on issues of integrity or rather lack of it, we descend upon them with hate and criticism; we demonize them and even ostracize them. What hypocrisy! We adopt holier than thou attitudes and forget that we too are hanging on the same integrity scale; the only difference being, we’ve not been placed under an auditor’s lens (Almost every human being is or will be a leader at some point in their life. Whether you’re heading a nation, a religious body, a learning institution, a home etc. as long as someone is looking up to you for guidance, pro
