Help The Boy Child; Heal The Society

...........The midwife announces, "it's indeed a girl!" Everyone within earshot wears an irresistible smile and hearts warm up to welcome yet another little woman into the world. Her role in the universe is clearly cut out , and she starts training in readiness for her mission as soon as her hands are strong enough to hold something. Her first birthday present is a beautiful doll, which gives her a countenance similar to the one mama had when she(the little girl) checked into the world. She has her first time experience of sacrifice when she shoves aside her plate of food, to take care of the new found love. Today she's training her (the doll) how to sit, tomorrow she is plaiting her hair, the other day she's carrying her on her back soothing her to sleep. Did I forget that mama is now being instructed to serve food for two? Though soon she'll start preparing meals for her child (doll) and doing her laundry as well. As her obsession with do...

Fed Up With Promiscuous HEs? Don’t Blame Biology, Query Socialization

In some remote village at the heart of Africa’s east gate, a heavily expectant woman checks-in at the health center . Her time is due and her agony throws the clinic into a commotion. Moments later, she gifts the world two adorable little humans. It’s a boy and a girl, the midwife exclaims in joy, wiping off drops of sweat from her forehead. Mom and dad are so excited; Mary and Martin will be their names, they agree amid sobs and tears of joy. Five years later, Mary has been accustomed to sticking around mama whenever she is at home, observing her closely as she performs the household duties. Once in a while mama throws some counsel at Mary; it may not make much sense at her tender age but her soft brain is absorbing every word of wisdom leaving mama’s mouth. All the while, Martin has learn ed to abide by his strict time budget; on the to-do-list are three special activities – play-eat-sleep, which the young lad observes religiously without fail. Mary has similar tasks ...

Arrest the Rampant Single Parenthood Mania

The importance of bringing forth and bringing up children in a controlled environment cannot be overemphasized. Though some people may claim to know what’s best for their children, there are those who really don’t give a damn about their offspring. For a moment, I would like us to ditch our individual beliefs and consider what the author of life defined as an ideal environment for bringing forth new life. [At the beginning of age, God made a home for man (Garden of Eden). Then He created man (male and female) and placed them at the garden. Finally, He said to them, “Multiply and fill the earth.” This means that a new life should be brought forth into an already prepared home and the progenitors should be present to welcome and nurture it. These are the minimum standards for bringing forth a new life as per the life-author’s guide.] However, humans have adopted a self-destructive culture. Misuse of freedom of choice has resulted in weird beliefs that have conditioned the hum...

Is The Health Of A Nation A Reflection Of The Health Of Its Families?

Family is the basic unit of society. Therefore, it goes without saying that society is a composition of families. Hence, a morally ill society is a reflection of morally ill families. When we talk of social evils like corruption, injustice, misuse of power etc. more often we shift our focus to leaders forgetting that leadership is just a title; these people are children born and bred in our families. For instance, whenever a leader is exposed on issues of integrity or rather lack of it, we descend upon them with hate and criticism; we demonize them and even ostracize them. What hypocrisy! We adopt holier than thou attitudes and forget that we too are hanging on the same integrity scale; the only difference being, we’ve not been placed under an auditor’s lens (Almost every human being is or will be a leader at some point in their life. Whether you’re heading a nation, a religious body, a learning institution, a home etc. as long as someone is looking up to you for guidance, pro...

Remember the Foundation

We’re living in dynamic times and things are changing quite fast. If those who lived in yesteryears came back, they would think they’ve discovered life on another planet because of the way things have revolutionized. It would take them a lifetime to understand what is going on.  Life is so fast paced nowadays, before you comprehend the fundamental principle of a trend, a phase is gone and another is midway. But how can we sustain sound judgment when life is moving at jet speed engaging us in full time comprehension occupation? Women on the Rise For instance, we hear of women empowerment all over. Have you ever been curious to find out the facts behind empowerment of Eves? I hope you have; but a good number of people especially women (no offense), jump into the wagon without establishing the objectives of this noble cause. And because they don’t build the cause on its foundation they go to extremes resulting in massive outcry from the male population. Misinformation ab...

Modern Family Dilemma

Modern Setting Breadwinning Every Morning Dad and Mom leave the house and go out on a breadwinning mission. End Month Dad and Mom bring home their pay checks. Pen and paper in hand, its budgeting time. Bills, investments etc. are the agendas. On the first day of the month they both hit the road again and the cycle continues. Housework Don’t even go there. It’s a tug of war. Dad says, “Babe where is my food. Please iron my shirt. Feed the baby. And blah blah blah ….” Mom goes like, “Dude are you for real, do I look like a super machine that works on a 24 hr basis while you do 12?” Dad either walks out of the door enraged and goes out to look for consolation elsewhere or retorts bitterly, “you’re my wife and housework is your duty, didn’t your mama train you? Go get my food and stop complaining.” Mom is now weeping and mutters amid sobs, “but honey we’re both doing the breadwinning don’t you think we should share the housework too.” Dad sinks deeper into t...
